Colour Impressionist Scottish LandscapeS

A collection of Colour Impressionist Scottish Landscape photographs created using various digital techniques that I hope achieve a uniqueness that traditional photography cannot.

VERNAL MOOD#1

VERNAL MOOD#1

A Blackthorn tree by the River Lossie near Easter Calcots, south of Lossiemouth, Moray, north-east Scotland.

SGURR IN ROSE

SGURR IN ROSE

Evening light over Sgurr Nan Gillian (Peak of the Boys). The Cuillin Hills on the Isle of Skye.

SPYNIE SKELETON

SPYNIE SKELETON

This impressionist photograph of a bare winter tree by a windswept Loch Spynie was entirely achieved in camera, using intentional camera movement during the exposure with basic adjustments done later in the digital darkroom. Despite it seeming that you’re alone in a wilderness here, Loch Spynie is not far from my home in Lossiemouth in Moray, North East Scotland.

VEINS ON LAYERS

VEINS ON LAYERS

Winter beeches allowing in the light. In summer it’s nearly dark here in daylight due to the foliage blocking the light. Entirely achieved in camera using Intentional Camera Movement. Westfield wood, Moray.

MOON BLOSSOM

MOON BLOSSOM

Not in any way actually relating to “lunar” blossom, this multiple exposure image was taken at Tom na Moon, which is “Englished” - as it’s called - from the Gaelic Tom Na Moine (pronounced: moynya) - the Hillock of the Moss, or morass. It was getting late by the time I took this and I was accompanied all the time by the trilling of a Nightjar. Moray, North-East Scotland.

VERNAL MOOD#2

Another Blackthorn tree by the River Lossie near Easter Calcots, south of Lossiemouth, Moray, north-east Scotland.

AUTUMN CHERRY

AUTUMN CHERRY

A cherry tree near the original Dallas in Moray, North-East Scotland. This is the same group of trees as seen in “Glory” in the colour landscape gallery.

KNOYDART MELLOW

KNOYDART MELLOW

Sunset over the remotest spot in the Scottish Highlands… the “Rough Bounds” of Knoydart in the North West Highlands. To get here you either walk or take a boat and once you’re here allow an hour - at least - longer to walk anywhere than you would in the rest of the Highlands.

ROSE OVER NAN GILLIAN

Sgurr Nan Gillian - The Peak of the Boys on the Isle of Skye.

SILVER SISTERS #3

SILVER SISTERS #3

Silver birch in Dulsie wood in Moray using different combinations of images from a series of Intentional Camera Movement and sharp shots. An example of how digital outguns analogue. Not better, you can just do harder!

Silver birch among the heather.

DARNAWAY BEACHES

DARNAWAY BEACHES

Darnaway forest in Moray. The forest is possibly named after the Chief goddess of the Gaelic Pantheon; Danu.

ONCE MIGHTY

ONCE MIGHTY

The ruins of a Pictish fortified roundhouse called a broch at Duncarloway on the Isle of Lewis. Dun is the Gaelic word for fortress.

The Picts – the fierce warriors that the Roman empire failed to conquer - are among the most enigmatic and misunderstood people of the ancient world and a bit of an obsession of mine so much so that I may have to write a book.
